Emergency Dentistry

We understand that dental emergencies can happen unexpectedly. At our clinic, we’re committed to addressing your issue promptly, whether it’s a minor filling or a complex procedure. Even if it occurs after hours, our answering service will ensure your message reaches our dentists.

The primary reasons our patients require emergency dental care typically involve accidents or toothaches. Toothaches may stem from infection or injury. If you’re experiencing a toothache, please don’t hesitate to contact us immediately. We’ll prioritize your appointment and diagnose the issue promptly to alleviate your discomfort. Among dental emergencies, a knocked-out or cracked tooth is especially critical. If your tooth has been knocked out, seeking immediate dental attention is crucial for saving it. While en route to the dentist, you can take interim measures to preserve the tooth, such as gently attempting to reposition it in its socket (avoiding contact with the root), keeping it moist between your gums and lip, or storing it in a container of milk. In cases where the dental emergency poses a potential threat to life, it’s advisable to seek immediate attention at the emergency room.

What to Do If You Encounter a Dental Emergency?

Even if you’re a new patient to our practice, we’re here to assist you in any dental emergency. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us right away if you require urgent care.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

There are several measures you can implement to prevent potential dental emergencies.

Our top recommendation is to handle your teeth with care and respect, as they’re the only set you’ll ever have! Eliminating habits like nail biting or chewing on non-food items can significantly reduce the risk of future dental issues.

Improving your dietary choices can also play a crucial role in maintaining dental health. Consuming hard, sticky candies or ice can cause wear and tear on your teeth, potentially leading to loosening or damage. If a food requires excessive chewing effort, it’s advisable to steer clear of it.

For athletes and children engaged in sports activities, wearing protective mouthguards is essential. These can be acquired from stores or through dental professionals. A well-fitted athletic mouthguard is more effective in preventing injuries, so it’s wise to have a dentist assess yours regularly. Even minor changes in tooth alignment can affect the mouthguard’s fit. If discomfort arises with a store-bought mouthguard, a dentist can often customize one for better comfort and protection. Remember to bring your mouthguard to every dental appointment for potential adjustments.

Following these guidelines can spare you from numerous dental visits and expenses throughout your life. While we’re always available to assist during dental emergencies, we’d much prefer you avoid them altogether!
