Fluoride Treatments
There are many causes of tooth decay, also known as cavities, and numerous strategies to prevent it. Tooth decay is a common issue that affects both children and adults.
Many communities enhance their water supply with a small amount of fluoride to help residents strengthen their teeth. Fluoride also naturally occurs in various foods such as pickles, grape juice, spinach, and tomatoes. Additionally, fluoride is a common ingredient in most toothpastes and some types of mouthwash.
What is Fluoride?
In dentistry, a crown, also known as a cap, is an artificial tooth that fits over a damaged tooth. They are custom-made to match your smile and are designed to be durable. Crowns are often necessary for various dental conditions and may be required after certain treatments. For example, a tooth that has undergone a root canal or has a large filling might be weakened and more susceptible to cracking or breaking, necessitating a crown for protection. Additionally, crowns are used cosmetically to enhance the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth.
There are several types of crowns available, each differing in appearance and strength.
We Offer Fluoride Treatments
At our office, we provide professional fluoride treatments, particularly for children who are more susceptible to cavities as their teeth develop and they learn proper oral hygiene practices. We recommend fluoride as a preventive measure for children and typically administer these treatments during their six-month cleaning visits. The treatment involves applying a fluoride varnish to the teeth using a gel, foam, or rinse. Additionally, we may suggest fluoride treatments for adults who have a high risk of tooth decay.
Furthermore, we consistently recommend using toothpaste that contains fluoride to help maintain dental health.
